Lovers of Italy,
Finally, I did it! I saw the best view of the Naples gulf and the Sorrento Coast with the island Capri on the horizon. From where? 🏔️The peak of Monte Faito (mountain Faito), is 1,400 meters above sea level. It’s a real gem of the Sorrento coast that you must include on your bucket list when you are traveling in Italy.
How to reach Monte Faito?
📌By car, but be ready that the road is serpentine and it’s better to avoid going there when it’s already dark
📌By bus, that departs from the Circumvesuviana train station in the town of Vico Equense
📌By funivia (from April to November), which departs from the Circumvesuviana train station in Castellammare di Stabia. You may see the schedule and buy tickets online with App GoEav. You can check the schedule on the website as well (link here).
📍There are numerous bars/restaurants and B&B on the top of Monte Faito where you can spend a relaxing weekend alone with yourself and nature. I recommend you have a drink/lunch/dinner in Bar Belvedere di Vanacore Giacomo.
And at the highest point, Santuario di San Michele Arcangelo al Monte Faito is located that was built in the XX century but the miracle of the statue of San Michele is dating to the XVI century.
What did it happen there? It is said that during the invasion of the Turks in Sorrento in 1558, a group of fugitives, who had escaped looting and captivity, took refuge on the Faito to ask for the help of the saint who caused drops of sweat to flow from the statue. And the next day the city was liberated from the invaders.
🥾If you like hiking, choose the trail from the funivia to the chapel of San Michele, known as “il Sentiero dell’Angelo” (trail of angels). It passes through shaded woods and is quite easy for even beginners and will take about 2 hours to complete it.
✅Insider tip: check the weather before you plan to climb the mountain because if it’s cloudy and grey, you’ll see nothing from the top.
