Explorers of Italy,
Summer is coming and I am sure that many of you are planning a trip to Amalfi Coast to enjoy this little paradise on the Mediterranean Sea in Italy. It’s a favorite summer destination of travelers from all over the world, and for good reason. So, if this place is also on your bucket list, follow these travel tips for a trip to Amalfi Coast and live your best experience there.
1. THE BEST WAY TO EXPLORE AMALFI COAST
Rent a
scooter. Why not a car? First of all, in the summer months, there are long traffic queues from one place to another and it’s difficult to find a parking place in some areas or it costs too much [in Positano you may pay 8 EUR/hour]. So, renting a scooter allows you to save time and money, and moving with a scooter has a great advantage: you may easily reach the most beautiful and solitary beaches that have no access by car.
Or as the second option, you can opt for
buses and ferries to take you along the coast and bring you to the amazing island of Capri. Simply use
the App Moovit to look for the best routes and bus schedules on Amalfi Coast. And if you are going to move from one spot to another by the sea, check the schedule of ferries on
Ferryhopper website.
Of course, you may rent a
car. Just be ready that the roads are quite straight, the traffic in the summer is quite intense, and the road is winding. Well, if you want to avoid extra stress, I wouldn’t recommend you this way of traveling there.
2. THE BEST THINGS TO DO ON AMALFI COAST
Amalfi Coast is a perfect beach destination and it offers a lot of resorts. But there are many things to do there except just lying on the beach and swimming in the sea. Save these ideas for your next trip to Amalfi Coast (well, keep in mind that they are just a few of them, to mention all one article is not enough).
Indulge yourself in Amalfi Lemon Experience. I guess you know that lemon is a symbol of the Amalfi Coast and when you come there you notice lemon trees everywhere. Lemons from Amalfi are one of the most impressive lemon varieties from Italy and they are included on the list of highly prized lemons in the world. That’s why when you are on Amalfi Coast don’t miss this:
- walk along the Path of Lemons, a scenic trail connecting the towns of Minori and Maiori;
- participate in a limoncello workshop, learn how to do a traditional lemon liqueur;
- try a sweet Delizia al limone from the famous pastry shop Sal de Riso in Minori.
Visit small authentic towns on Amalfi Coast. Include in your itinerary small authentic towns on Amalfi Coast that I mentioned in one of my articles previously. But also don’t forget to visit
the smallest Italian village Atrani where you can easily go on foot from Amalfi, just 10 minutes and you are there.
Take a boat tour for a day and enjoy the picturesque landscapes of the Amalfi Coast from the sea. I swear this is my favorite activity in the summer and especially on Amalfi Coast!
I don’t know what can be more breathtaking than to see all this nature and towns of the coast from the water. So, please, promise me that you’ll try this experience and go fo
r a boat tour on Amalfi Coast and visit the glitzy Italian island, Capri.
Rent a boat just for you with a skipper for the whole day or simply choose
one of organised tours by Civitatis to enjoy best!
Another option could be to take a ferry and go directly to Capri to visit the island by foot and relax on one of its beaches and then come back to your destination the same way by ferry.
3. THE BEST TYPICAL THINGS TO EAT ON AMALFI COAST
As I mentioned before the first thing that you have to try on Amalfi Coast, is everything that contains lemon!
Remember these top of the typical dishes:
- spaghetti alla Nerano (with cheese and zucchini), is among my personal Top 5 the most delicious Italian pasta
- scialatielli ai frutti di mare (long shape pasta with seafood)
- spaghetti alle vongole (spaghetti with clams)
- mozzarella (it’s a must!)
- ndunderi from Minori (one of the oldest types of pasta in the world, a variety of gnocchi with flour and ricotta and served with quick-to-cook tomatoes sauce)
- alici di Cetara (anchovies of a little town Cetara). Try pasta with colatura di alici (Traditional Anchovy Sauce) and feel the real taste of the sea.
- delizia al limone (this sweet pastry that you see in the picture)
- granita al limone (ice with lemon juice – perfect to refresh on a hot summer day)
- limoncello (lemon liquor)
I would say to you one important thing, my dear lovers of Italy, be ready, Amalfi Coast will steal your heart for sure…
