Ciao, explorers of Italy!
I am sure that many of you are planning to visit the South of Italy, especially the region of Campania where the most popular places are Naples, Amalfi, Positano, Capri… And everyone wants to go to these raucous destinations. Frankly speaking, I also do love “la costiera amalfitana” and go there two or three times per year and it’s never enough. Moreover, I visit not only the above-mentioned spots but prefer to explore the region and go to new places. Today I’d like to share with you three small authentic towns that you must include in your itinerary when you travel to Campania region.

1. CAVA DE’TIRRENI, Salerno Province
It is a very little, but very cozy town in Salerno Province. Cava de’Tirreni is a mixture of ancient, Christian & modern cultures that peacefully coexist in this place and charm the visitors.
Actually, this town used to be one of the favorite vacation places (even if there it is not situated next to the sea) by ancient nobles from Rome. The fact is innumerable Roman ruins have been found throughout the ages there…
Today Cave de’Tirreni offers culture, history, architecture, art, gastronomy, and lovely itineraries for its tourists. But also the locals like to visit Cava (they call it shortly) for shopping or to meet with friends for a drink or dinner because there are a lot of nice places. And you may also enjoy the nightlife there.

2. VIETRI SUL MARE, Salerno Province
The town remains less known on Amalfi Coast but you must include it in your itinerary if you want to get to know authentic Italy. It offers an intriguing mix of sea views, artistry, beauty, and simplicity.
Vietri sul Mare is the ceramics capital of Campania. You will feel its unique atmosphere during your walk in the town city center, it’s so small but full of decorative tile shopfronts selling ceramics of all shapes, sizes, and colors.
Also, you may spend a day on the beach there and in the evening enjoy a walk in the small streets and a good aperitivo next to the sea.

3. CETARA, Salerno Province
There is Marina di Cetara beach where you may take sun baths and swim in the sea. If you are fun of historical places, visit museum the Torre di Cetara.
The town is famous not only for the anchovy sauce (it. Colatura di alici) but also for the excellent tuna caught with the characteristic “tonnare”, typical boats of the area. So, in this destination you’ll taste the best fish on the Amalfi Coast. Believe me!
Don’t miss a thing and try the typical local dish: spaghetti with colatura di alici (just keep in mind that the taste may be so strong for you, so “fishy”).
Note: In 2020 the colatura obtained the PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) recognition attracting even more food lovers from all over the world that come to this small village to try its typical products!
Did you know about these places? I hope that thanks to me you’ll explore new places in Italy.
